Medina Ice Festival 2026

The Fargo Escape Plan

We nearly didn’t go.

The snow had finally melted, but the cold came creeping back in — the kind that makes staying home feel like the smartest plan. Blankets. Coffee. Hibernation mode.
But instead of letting winter win, we layered up, stepped outside, and headed to the Medina Ice Festival in Medina, Ohio.

And honestly? We were glad we did.

Watching Art Take Shape

One of the highlights was seeing solo ice carvers working from start to finish. There’s something mesmerizing about watching a solid block of ice slowly transform — the steady hum of tools, chips scattering onto the pavement, and the intense focus of the artist as details emerge.

It’s not just the final sculpture that’s impressive. It’s the process. The patience. The temporary beauty of something created to exist for only a short time.

Festival Comforts (Because Cold Requires Snacks)

Of course, winter festivals aren’t complete without warm treats and comfort food. Vendors lined the square with kettle corn drifting through the air, funnel cakes dusted in sugar, and plenty of hot drinks to warm frozen fingers.

Local artisan vendors added another layer to the experience — handmade goods, crafts, and small-business creativity tucked between the sculptures.

More Than Just the Festival

One of the unexpected perks of visiting Medina is that the event blends right into the charm of the square itself. Between carvings, we wandered into a few of the surrounding shops, turning the afternoon into a slow, spontaneous exploration rather than just a quick event stop.

And for families, the Medina Library had a craft station set up for kids — a cozy, creative indoor break from the cold and a reminder that this festival really is designed for the whole community.

Why This One Felt Like a Fargo Escape Plan Moment

We didn’t travel far.
We didn’t plan weeks ahead.
We just said yes to something local on a cold weekend when staying home felt easier.

And that’s exactly what The Fargo Escape Plan is about.

Adventure doesn’t always look like a plane ticket or a packed itinerary. Sometimes it looks like stepping into the cold, wandering a town square, and watching art melt slowly into memory.
